Can Walking in the Park Make You Smarter?
Evidently, yes. So says Dr. Rachel Hopman, a neuroscientist at Northeastern University in Boston. She conducted a study which found that spending 20 minutes, 3 times a week, walking in any sort of natural area boosted cognition and improved memory, as well as making us feel good – no surprise there. Interestingly, the benefits were not present if people were on their cell phones.
Try the 20-5-3 Guideline for Greater Health and Happiness:
~ 20 minutes, three times a week walking in a natural area, even an urban park
~ 5 hours a month in a semi-wild area
~ 3 days a year, off-grid, camping or in a cabin
